Corporal Sherwood faced many hardships. The Diary Entry describes brutal explosions and Sherwood's fears of living. Sherwood risks his life to feed himself. The diary tells how they must carry on without their dead soldiers and be strong. The diary hints at how the soldiers must live at risk at all times on the battlefields and their continuous fear of any moment of dying. It also hints that he is starving because he risks his life to eat.
