You have the following equation:


(1)/(2)(2+4x)=x+5

The first step you need to do, in order to solve the previous equation for x, is to distribute the 1/2 to remove the parenthesis. In this way you can cancel out the denominator of the fraction of the right side, and eliminate the parenthesis.

When you distribute 1/2 you obtain:


\begin{gathered} (1)/(2)(2)+(1)/(2)(4x)=x+5 \\ 1+2x=x+5 \end{gathered}
