When it ionizes, sodium (Na) becomes Na+. Does sodium lose or gain an electron during ionization ? Which has a bigger atomic radius: Na or Na+? Can some one please help me and explain why. I am like so

When Sodium ionize to form an ion, sodium loses one electron to form Na+
Na will have a larger atomic radius than Na+ as there are lesser electrons than protons in Na+ as compared to Na. Hence, Na has a bigger atomic radius.
