Henry VIII was originally given the title of "Defender of the Faith" by the Pope for Henry's criticisms of Martin Luther. Later, however, Henry VIII separated from the Catholic Church and formed his own Church of England with himself as the head of the new church. Do you think Henry was justified or not in his actions?

Good Morning!

It is not the historian's task to judge whether an action is justifiable or not. But it must be noted, for example, that England's rupture with the Catholic Church allowed the rise of a new form of Protestantism, exclusive of the Breton lands.
