A picture framer has a thin board 10 1/12 feet long. the framer notice a scratched and cannot be used. the rest of the board will be used to make small picture frames. each picture frames needs 1 2/3 feet of the board. at most, how many complete picture frames can be made?

To find this we first need to convert each measurement into a improper fraction. 1 2/3 = 5/3 and 10 1/12 becomes 121/12.. Now how many times can we take 5/3 out of 121/12 ? This is done by dividing 121/12 by 5/3 or the easier way to think about it is to multiply 121/12 by the reciprocal which is 3/5.

121/12 *3/5= when reduced is 121/20. divide 121 by 20 and get 6 remainder 1.

That means you can make 6 picture frames.
