The Monroe Doctrine basically outlined by John Quincy Adams, outlined that the U.S. would not tolerate European nations colonizing anywhere in the Americas. It also stated the U.S. would not interfere with any current colonies, though if a nation tried to expand the U.S. would take aggressive action. This was significant because it outlined the American ideology for foreign policy, helped America towards their goal of Manifest Destiny (expanding from caost to coast), helped the U.S. emerge as a potential new world power, and promoted trade with Latin America.
