The bryophytes, which include liverworts, hornworts and mosses, reproduce sexually. Sexual reproduction in plants occurs when pollen from a plant's stamen reaches the stigma of a flower. Roots such as corms, stem tubers, rhizomes, and stolon undergo vegetative reproduction. Asexual reproduction produces new individuals without the fusion of gametes, genetically identical to the parent plants and each other, except when mutations occur.
