The weight that a horizontal beam can support varies inversely as the length of the beam. Suppose that a 2-m beam can support 410 kg. How many kilograms can a 1-m beam support?

a.
820 kg
b.
0.0024 kg
c.

Answer:

A. 820 kg is correct.

Explanation:

The reason that this is correct is because, well, I did the math, and also, if you think about this, the longer the beam, the less weight it can hold, therefore, a 10 meter beam can't hold as much weight as a 2 meter beam

There are several information's already given in the question. Based on those given information's, the answer can be easily deduced.

Since weight is inversely proportional to length, so
Weight = k/Length
k = weight * length
= 410 * 2
= 820
Then
Weight that a 1 m beam can support = 820/1
= 820 kg
I hope that the procedure is clear enough for you to understand.
