This is an absolute value equation. I don't know what to do if there is a number with the variable.

Pretend the parentheses are the lines in a absolute value problem
( y + 4) lesser than 1
Please explain! :)

|y+4|<1\\\ y+4<1 \wedge y+4>-1\\ y<-3 \wedge y>-5\\ y\in(-5,-3)
