Consider the following three systems of linear equations. System A System B System C 5x -8y=4 [A1] 19y = -57 [C1] 10x - 16y= 8 (B1] 2x - 7y = 13 [B2] 2x-7y= 13 [42] 2x–7y= 13 [C2] Answer the questions below. For each, choose the transformation and then fill in the blank with the correct number. The arrow (-) means the expression on the left becomes the expression on the right. How do we transform System A into System B?

Equation A1 is:

5x - 8y = 4

Multiplying this equation by 2, we get:

2(5x - 8y) = 2(4)

2(5x) - 2(8y) = 2(4)

10x - 16y = 8

This equation is the same as equation B1, then

2 x Equation A1 → Equation B1
