What happens to the arrangement of water molecules as ice melts?

As ice melts the molecules become less compact and start vibrating harder until the ice has changed state into liquid. They eventually form clumps of molecules and flow in their groups.

The arrangement of the water molecules begins to spread apart. (They would condense to form ice.)
