Ionic compound because it consists of a metal and non metal, covalent compounds only consist of non metals

Answer : The compound
CuBr_2 is an ionic compound.

Explanation :

Ionic compound are the compounds where the atoms are bonded through ionic bond.

Ionic bonds are formed by the complete transfer of electrons. The atom which looses the electron is considered as electropositive atom and the atom which gains the electron is considered as electronegative atom.

The ionic bonds are formed between one metal and one non-metal.

Covalent compound are the compounds in which atoms are covalently bonded.

Covalent bonds are formed by the equal sharing of electrons. These bonds are commonly formed between two non-metals.

In the given compound
CuBr_2, copper (Cu) is a metal and bromine (Br) is a non-metal. So,
CuBr_2 will form ionic bond.

Hence, the compound
CuBr_2 is an ionic compound.
