20 less than (- 20) 8 times a number (8x) is the same as (=) 15 more than (+ 15) the number (x).
8x - 20 = x + 15
To solve for the number, start by subtracting x from both sides.
7x - 20 = 15 Add 20 to both sides
7x = 35 Divide both sides by 7
x = 5
