Camel is the most suitable means of transport and beast of burden in the desert as it remarkably adapts itself to the rough conditions. It can survive on less water for long durations. It has padded feet which protects the feet from being burnt in the scorching heat of the hot sand. Its hairy eyelashes and ears prevent sand and gritty materials from entering through it. And because of all these reasons, camels are known as the 'Ship of the Desert'.

Camels can carry water in their hump things, and ships do sail on water, so maybe it's referring that the camel can also easily transport you.
