What literary device is " shield- bosses"?

A. Kenning.

Originally present in Anglo-Saxon and Norse poetry, a kenning is a metaphor composed of two words, creating a single noun or phrase which attempts to represent a compressed idea or object.

Beowulf has many examples of kennings such as: "battle-sweat" or "light-of-battle".
