There have been many film adaptations of Mary Shelley'a novel Frankenstein. How do most adaptions differ from the original text version of the story?

In the original Frankenstein book the Scientist who created the monster was named Dr. Frankenstein and the creation was just called monster. In newer adaptions and films the monster is referred to as Frankenstein.
