Add the numbers in each row to find the total amount of pedestrian deaths when the driver was intoxicated or not, regardless of the state of the pedestrian:

Driver intoxicated:

54+74=128

Driver not intoxicated:

288+568=856

Add both totals to find the total amount of pedestrian deaths:

128+856=984

To find the probability that the driver was not intoxicated, divide the total amout of not-intoxicated driver pedestrian deaths over the total amoun of pedestrian deaths:

(856)/(984)=0.8699\ldots\text{.}

Therefore, if a dead pedestrian is randomly selected, the probability that the driver was not intoxicated is:

0.8699
