The school has budgeted $2000 for an end-of-the-year party at the local park. The cost to rent the park shelter is $150. How much can the student council spend per student on food if each of the 225 students receives a $3.50 gift?

total: 2000
subtract rent for park: 2000 - 150 = 1850
subtract gift: 1850 - 3.50(225) = 1062.50
divide by number of students: 1062.50 / 225 = 4.72

$4.72 per person, for food
