y= 1/2x + 5/2 (a)

x - 2y= 7 (b)

First, isolate y on (b)

-2y = -x + 7

y = (-x + 7 ) / -2

y= 1/2x - 7/2

Subtract (b) to (a)

y = 1/2x + 5/2

-

y = 1/2x - 7/2

___________

0 = 0 + 6

0= 6

Since 0 is not equal to 6, the system has NO SOLUTIONS.
