We are asked to calculate the quotiente (division) of two mixed numbers. In order to do it, we first convert them into improper fractions, since the division of fractions is very simple to perform.

The quatient requested is:

8 1/6 divided by 1 7/8

Se we convert 8 1/6 into the fraction: 8 + 1/6 = 48/6 + 1/6 = 49/6

We also convert 1 7/8 into the fraction: 1 + 7/8 = 8/8 + 7/8 = 15/8

And now we divide these fractions (which as we recall can be converted into the multiplication of the first one times the reciprocal of the second one);

49/6 divided 15/8 = 49/6 * 8/15 = 392/90 = 196/45

Now we convert this back into mix number:

196/45 = 4 + 32/45 = 4 16/45

which is the mixed number 4 and 16/45
