Simplify both sides of the equation.

10 + -9 = (1)/(11)y \ \textgreater \ (10 + -9) (1)/(11)y (Combine the like terms) \ \textgreater \ 1 = (1)/(11)y \ \textgreater \
Then you want to flip the equation.

(1)/(11)y = 1
Then you want to Multiply both sides by 11!

11 * ( (1)/(11)y) = 11 * 1 \ \textgreater \ y = 11

10 - 9 = y/11
1 = y/11
1 * 11 = y
11 = y

y = 11
