They mostly grew maize, as it was easy to take care of and grew well in the area, even though this plant caused crop reduction due to removing nutrients.

I believe the answer is: B. maize

Maize products grow really well in their area because it does not need many water and can grow by their own without intensive cares. Not only that, maize contain a huge amount of calories , which make this crop become popular as the main source of energy for native american people.
