Given

Ryan has 75 stamps and his friend Jason had 170 stamps.

They purchased a book with stamps and shared it equally.

After sharing the book, Jason ended up with twice the number of stamps than Ryan had.

To calculate how many stamps the book contained.

Now,

Let 2x be the number of stamps that the book had.

Since, Ryan has 75 stamps and Jason had 170 stamps before sharing the book.

And, they shared the stamps in the book equally.

Then, Ryan has 75+x and Json has 170+x stamps.

Also, after sharing the book, Jason ended up with twice the number of stamps than Ryan had.

Then,

\begin{gathered} 170+x=2(75+x) \\ 170+x=150+2x \\ 2x-x=170-150 \\ x=20 \end{gathered}

Therefore, the number of stamps in the book is,

\begin{gathered} \text{Number of stamps in the book}=2x \\ =2*20 \\ =40 \end{gathered}

Hence, the number of the stamps in the book is 40.
