Do you have to register to vote every election, or just once? I turned 18 in 2004, and I registered as a voter to participate in that year's election. My question is, now that I'm 22 in 2008, do I have to register again? Or does my last registration carry on indefinitely?

Rules may vary from one place to another, but generally once you are registered you continue your registration by voting and it will remain in effect even if you don't vote.

If you move you may have to re-register to be able to vote in the right place. Congratulations on your decision to exercise your rights as a citizen. Please carefully study all issues and candidates before you vote.

You may want to check to make sure your registration is current with whoever maintains the register of voters where you live. Your county courthouse should be able to tell you where to find that out.
