Answer: Mean Absolute Deviation is 6.4

Explanation:

Mean absolute deviation = 6.4

Given : Data 45, 38, 52, 58, and 42 hours.

To find : What is the mean absolute deviation for the number of hours students practiced the violin? Round to the nearest tenth.

Solution : We have given that

45, 38, 52, 58, 42

Mean Deviation = Σ|x − μ|/N.

Where, x = given values like 45,38...etc

μ = mean .

N = total number of values .

We need to find mean = \frac{45+38+52+58+42}{5}

Mean ( μ ) = 47.

|x − μ| = |45 − 47| = 2

|38− 47| = 9

|52− 47| = 5

|58− 47| = 11

|42− 47| = 5

Then Mean Deviation = \frac{2+9+5+11+5}{5}

Mean absolute deviation = 6.4
