How can you tell if an amino acid is hydrophobic or hydrophillic?

Hi
Take on ºcount that polar bonds, like O-H or N-H, the molecule has some polarity and that it is likely hydrophilic, unless they are an overwhelming amount of non-polar bonds. So, O-H (Hydroxyl groups) are the MOST polar groups and are usually a good indicator of hydrophilia.
