$425 to spend over 14 days.

Think of it like this, if we have a circular pie, and you want 14 pieces. What would you need to do? Divide it up into 14 different pieces, so that you can share it with others.

This problem isn't much different from that one. Except in this case we have a numerical value (a number) instead of a pie. Although it is the same process. So, we divide $425 by 14.

If you don't remember your 14's here they are below. Now we need to use something called long division.

14x1 = 10x1 + 4x1 = 10 + 4 = 14
14x2 = 10x2 + 4x2 = 20 + 8 = 28
14x3 = 10x3 + 4x3 = 30 + 12 = 42
14x4 = 10x4 + 4x4 = 40 + 16 = 56
14x5 = 10x5 + 4x5 = 50 + 20 = 70
14x6 = 10x6 + 4x6 = 60 + 24 = 84
14x7 = 10x7 + 4x7 = 70 + 28 = 98
14x8 = 10x8 + 4x8 = 80 + 32 = 112
14x9 = 10x9 + 4x9 = 90 + 36 = 126

$425 ÷ 14

When you are doing long division you simply look at the terms going left to right.

First is there any multiple of 14 that goes into the number 4.

Looking above the lowest multiple of 14 is 1 which equals 14. 4 is NOT greater than or equal to 4. So, we move on to the 42.

Would you look at that! 14*3 = 42. So, our first number is 3.
Subtract the 42 out of the problem so we are left with 0.
Move down the 5.

5 isn't greater than or equal to 14, so we put a 0 there.

So, we have 30 with a remainder of 5.

To answer the question she can spend about $30 a day!
