Can index fossils be useful in determining correlation of rocks

Answer: yes
Explanation: Index fossils and key beds can be used to correlate or match rock layers of the same age. The oldest and youngest rocks in a succession of outcrops can then be found by placing additional strata of rocks in order of their relative ages.
