Piper opened a savings account with $1400 that pays no interest. She deposits an

additional $50 each week thereafter. How much money would Piper have in the
account 47 weeks after opening the account?

Answer: Piper will have $3750

Explanation:

In this situation we will represent the total amount she have in the bank by y and the number of weeks by x

The whole situation can be represented by the the equation

y = 1400 + 50x where y is the total amount , 1400 is the initial amount Piper deposited , 50 is of course the amount Piper will deposit each week , and x is the number of weeks.

Now since they are looking for the amount Piper will have in his account, you have to input 47 for x and solve for y.

y = 1400 + 50(47)

y = 1400 + 2350

y = 3750
