I've been working with f(x) problems in Algebra one, and I don't understand how I do the up units, down units, right units ETC. Help please

So for f(x) remember its essentially Y, so if that helps, remember f(x) is the same as y. Anyways, so when its x+h, the graph point with shift to the right h amount of units, and when its x-h, the point with shift to the left h amount. And then when its x(k) the graph will shift up. You can remember that h with shift left or right by thinking of h= horizontal. Does it all make sense?
