Chang is driving to New York City. Suppose that the remaining distance to drive (in miles) is a linear function of his driving time (in minutes). When graphed,the function gives a line with a slope of -0.9. See the figure below.Chang has 37 miles remaining after 33 minutes of driving. How many miles will be remaining after 41 minutes of driving?

Chang is driving to New York City.

The distance travel by Chang show the linear relationship with the time.

The graph of the relation between the distance left and time is given as;

Such, that the slope of the line is given as;

Slope = - 0.9 minutes

The standrad form of the linear equation is : y = mx + b, where m is the slope.

Since, Chang has 37 miles remaining after 33 minutes of driving.

i.e. at x = 33, y = 37

y = mx + b

37 = (-0.9)(33) + b

b = 66.7

Thus, the equation of the graph will be;

y = (-0.9)x + 66.7

Now, for the distance left after 41 minutes of travelling

Substitute x = 41 in the equation of the graph;

y = -0.9x + 66.7

y = (-0.9)(41) + 66.7

y = 29.8

Thus, 29.8 miles will be left after 41 miles of driving.

Answer : 29,8 miles will be left after 41 miles of driving.
