You could spend time working out how much she earns from the band per year, and how much from her investments, and how much per hour from her job, but none of that is necessary for the answer. The amount of raise she requires per year is 51 880 - 49 696 = 2 184 2184/52 = 42 per week 42/28 = 1.5 per hour

52*28*x + 52*200 + 12*120 = 49696

by solving we find:

x = $26 per hour

with the new hourly rate she is supposed to have a total annual income of $51,880 or:

52*28*x + 52*200 + 12*120 = 51880

by solving we find:

x = $27.5 per hour

$27.5 - $26 = $1.5

Desiree needs an hourly raise of $1.5.
