-5x + 7 > 42
-5x > 42 - 7
-5x > 35
x < -35/5
x < - 7

u have to flip the inequality sign when multiplying/dividing by a negative number

Solve for x by simplifying both sides of the equation, and then isolating the variable.
x < - 7
