In To Kill a Mockingbird, what explanation does Atticus initially give for defending Tom Robinson? What elaboration of his reasons does he offer in response to Scout’s question about why he’s defending him if others think he shouldn’t?

Atticus' defense to defend Tom Robison is that in every Lawyers career they have a case that really conflicts them. He tells Scout that he's defending Tom because if he didn't he'd feel like he couldn't tell Scout and Jen what to do
