What happened to skilled workers durning the industrial revolution

Every year there was nearly a thousand people treated for wounds and mutilations cause by machines in factories. Workers were often abandoned from the moment the accident occurred.

Skilled laborers sometimes lost their jobs as new machines replaced them. People began to work long hours under harsh conditions.

Factory owners and managers paid the minimum amount necessary for a work force, often recruiting women and children to tend the machines because they worked for much less pay.

Pigs and other farm animals often lived int he factories, making them particularly unsanitary.

Meals at the factories were poor in quality and food tended to get covered in dust. Some mills served only porridge and boiled bacon.

Division of labor made some jobs repetitive and very boring, and workers labored 12 or more hours a day, six days a week, under close supervision by managers and overseers, and under strict rules.

Many skilled workers lost their jobs since specialized workers were not needed as they once before the industrial revolution. That is because since the machines were doing a lot of the work, unskilled workers could operate them and work for a much lower pay. Because of that, the skilled workers had to either accept the lower pay, become skilled in something else that was still in use, or become unemployed.
