This is because plants and animals obtain energy using different organelles. Animal cells use mitochondria to convert energy into food, and plant cells use chloroplasts to convert light into energy through photosynthesis...

Chloroplasts are organelles specialized for photosynthesis. Animals do not photosynthesize; therefore, they do not need chloroplasts.
