Alright so you have 1/3y-2=4.

First, tackle what you know. Add 2 to both sides to isolate y. When you add 2, you get 1/3y=6.

Now you need to get rid of the fraction 1/3 to have y by itself. If you multiply 1/3 by 3, y can be by itself. So, multiple 3 on both sides. When you do this, you get y=18.

Check your answer to make sure it's right.
1/3(18)-2=4
6-2=4
4=4

okay so you add 2 to both sides and then you multiple by 3 which will give you -y equals 18
