On the first day of the year, Diego had $700 in his savings account and started spending $35 a week. His brother had $450 and started saving $15 a week. After how many weeks will the brothers have the same amount? What will the amount be?

700-35x=450+15x
+35x +35x
------- -------
700=450+50x
-450 -450
------- ------
250/50=50x/50
--------- ----------
5 = x

So basically you set up this algebraic equation:
700-35x=450+15x
And then solve for X.
X is how many weeks.
So they will have the same amount after 5 weeks.
To get the amount just plug in 5 for X:
700-35(5)= 525
450+15(5)= 525

ANSWER:
5 weeks; $525

700-35x=y
450+15x=y
when will be equal?

700-35x=450+15x
add 35x both sides
700=450+50x
minus 450 both sides
250=50x
divide by 50
5=x
answer is 5 weeks

evaluate
450+15(5)=
450+75=
525

after 5 weeks, both will be 525
