Think of it like this.
16 * 6=
96
Then add a zero to multiply it by ten and add the 0 in
16*60= 960.
Or 12*6= 72
Add the zero
12*60= 720
Now all you have left is 4 to get to 16
4*6=24
add the ten
4*60= 240
Now add 240+720= 960
