Final answer:

The velocity of the object at 1 second is -6 ft/s.

Step-by-step explanation:

The velocity of an object thrown straight down from the top of a 220-foot building with an initial velocity of 26 feet per second can be calculated using the equation v = u + at, where v is the final velocity, u is the initial velocity, a is the acceleration due to gravity, and t is the time. In this case, the acceleration due to gravity is approximately -32 ft/s^2 because the object is moving in the opposite direction of the positive y-axis.

At t = 1 second, we can substitute the values into the equation:

v = 26 + (-32)(1) = -6 ft/s

So, the velocity at 1 second is -6 feet per second.

Wouldn't it be 26 feet?  If the initial velocity is 26 feet, per every 1 second.  Then the velocity should be 26 feet.  I'm guessing.
