Similes are used when they are comparing two things using like or as but metaphor there is no like or as but there is comparison. Simile example is as fast as a cheetah and a metaphor example is life is a roller coaster. Hope that cleared those two off for you.

Answer:

A simile is a comparison made to illustrate better a character or object. Similes usually have the word “as” to compare, for example: "as slow as a turtle". While a metaphor refers to the use of a word to represent something that works as a symbolism, for example: "Your eyes are two stars".

In “Maroo of the Winter Caves” many examples of similes and metaphors can be found. One example would be: “as fast as a cheetah”. The comparison made does not mean that the person is a cheetah but has the speed of one. One example of a metaphor is “Otak was a dark, moving blur” which means that Maroo’s brother, Otak, knows how to be unnoticed. It does not literary mean that her brother was a moving blur.
