Describe how to round 3.987 to the nearest tenth

The tenth digit is the second to the right, after the decimal, so 8. If you look at the hundredths digit, you see it is a 7. Is 7 closer to 1 or 10? 10, so you would round the 8 up to 9, instead of leave it at 8. If the hundredths digit was closer to 1, you would leave it as a 8. Hope this helped! (:

so u basically round 8 which is 10 and then add the 1 from 10 to 9 which is 10 and add the 1 to 3 which is 4
