HELP PLEASE

Read the following paragraph and answer the question below.

Recently, in a large American city, a man was convicted of manslaughter because he ran a red light, hit another car, and killed the driver. The judge sentenced him to five years' probation and ordered him to pay during each of those years into a trust fund for the dead man's child. Since the convicted man has two small children, the payments will be a strain. If he had been sent to prison, however, his family would suffer more because he would have no salary. The victim's family would not have benefited, either.
From a study of the details in the paragraph above, choose the generalization that could serve as a topic sentence for the paragraph.

1.Alternate sentences for some convicts can benefit both the convict and society.
2.Prison is hard on the families of convicted criminals and on the victim's family.

Answer: 1. Alternate sentences for some convicts can benefit both the convict and society.

Step-by-step explanation:

Because it is mentioned in the paragraph that the traditional sentence for the man would had been going to prision, which would have left his family without any income, but by following the alternate sentence he is giving money to the victim's family while he can still generate an income for his own and he is not in jail.
