The given expression is,

(a)/(2)-(a)/(3)=8

To solve the above equation for a, first take the common factor a outside and simplify.

\begin{gathered} a((1)/(2)-(1)/(3))=8 \\ a((3-2)/(2\cdot3))=8 \\ a((1)/(6))=8 \end{gathered}

Cross multiplying,

\begin{gathered} a=6\cdot8 \\ a=48 \end{gathered}

Therefore, the value of a is 48.
