3x=18

---- ---

3 3

=

6 dogs

first, I wrote it as a equation I knew that times means multiply so I took the 3 because it says three times and put 3x because we don't know how many dogs he has

second, I just put = 18 because that's how many chickens he has in total

third, I needed to isolate the variable so I did divided 3 on both saids and 3x divide about 3 well it cancels it out so it would be 1 which x can be used as one, then I did 18 divided by 3 because whatever you do to one side you do to the other and then I got 6 so the answer is 6

answer = 6
