Thomas Jefferson (1743 – 1826) was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence. American statesman, diplomat, lawyer, architect, and Founding Father who served as the third president of the United States from 1801 to 1809. This phrase was first considered by Locke in his Two Treatises on Government, but Jeferson used in in the Declaration of Independence.
