Symmetry: a kind of balance in which the corresponding parts are not necessarily alike but only similar. Generally is a balance between various parts of an object.
Proportion: refers to the relative size of parts of a whole.
You can make your designs look very professional by using both symmetry and proportion but also you can jump out of the box to by not using each to their extremes to make a design look eye catching.
