Why is 4 +(-3) equal to 1

Explanation:

several ways to explain this, but the simplest way to show this is using a number line.

See attached for number line.

If we start at zero and add 4 (i.e the blue line) we will get a value of 4.0

subsequently, if we subtract 3 from this (green line), we will end up at 1.
