d = dogs weight
r = rabbit weight

translations:
d = 12r
r = r

we are trying to solve for d in the equation

d + r = 104 , and we know d = 12r.

so we get

12r + r = 104

combine like terms

13r = 104

divide 13 on both sides

r = 8.

we now know the rabbit weighs 8 pounds and the dog weighs 12x more than the rabbit. so multiply 8 by 12 to get 96.

the dog weighs 96 pounds.

the other answer is incorrect, how can a dog weigh 2000 pounds! make sure to check the answer to see if it is right.
