First, we would start off by using a negative integer. An integer is a number that can be positive or negative! Let's say we start our equation with integer -2.
And we want to do a subtraction equation, so our equation would be
-2- x = y. We know that a negative number minus a negative number is positive! So we would subtract a negative number greater than the starting value to get a positive answer! Like this:
-2 - -3 = 1! A helpful tip is to add the opposite value of an integer, so instead of subtracting negative 3, we can add 3, like this:
-2 + 3 = 1! I hope this helped!
